Parking Lot ABC's- Learning Through Play

Image
I've come to learn that teaching your child can be a difficult task. Every child learns differently as well, which means that there is a good chance that the method I use for O won't necessarily be the most effective method when it comes to P. O likes a challenge. He wants to race, finish first, be the best; it all comes down to playing games. He will not be the child I sit down at the table and do workbooks with. He is a visual and hands on learner. So my approach with O is through play. Our newest "Learning Through Play"activity is called Parking Lot ABC's. It involves... you guessed it... matchbox cars. A big winner in our house, so I knew this was going to be a hit! Materials Needed: 1. Foam core. You could also use poster board. If you use poster board, I'd spend a few dollars and have it laminated. 2. Markers 3. Cars/Trucks 4. Alphabet flashcards* (optional, you could simply just call out a letter, but in order to sell this as a game to O, the

Quick and Easy Chicken Enchiladas (21 Day Fix Inspired Recipe)

Here's another quick, easy and healthier meal option to try. This was my first time preparing and I have to say, it was pretty easy. I will definitely make again, but would make a homemade enchilada sauce instead of store bought. Time and preparation were not on my side when I was shopping for this meal. Like a lot of my recipes, I like to cheat to make things easier. In this case, it was buying a rotisserie chicken and store bought enchilada sauce from Fresh Market. I found this recipe at There's Always Time 4 Fitness . It's a 21 Day Fix recipe. Mine is a slight variation. She does a great job of breaking down all the containers. I encourage you to check out her post if you are following the container portion of the 21 Day Fix. Adapted from There's Always Time 4 Fitness *I used all of the white meat from the rotisserie **2 enchiladas is 1 serving Ingredients: 1 red container of shredded chicken (I used rotisserie chicken from Fresh Market). 1 tsp of So

Back in November, the Mister and I made the commitment to each other and ourselves that we would start working out again. I had been talking about it for months. I could never find or make the time during the day and by the time the boys were in bed, all I wanted to do was veg on the couch and watch my shows. The Mister is an early riser, always has been. He has always made time for himself in the mornings before getting ready for work. Whether that was time to read, catch up on sports stats, practice putting or workout, that was when he "fit it in." So my excuse of "not enough hours in the day" did not cut it with him. Something had to give and that something for me was an hour of morning sleep. Not realizing, we started our new 5:30am workout routine the day after day light savings. Score! Smartest. Thing Ever. We were already winning. My body was use to 6:30am wake up and with the time change, I barely noticed the difference. We choose to start our new lifestyl

3 Boys Deep and an Awesome Dinner...All In A Days Work

I must say I am quite impressed with myself. I survived day 1 of watching my 3 month old nephew Liam. I am a mom of 2 boys, so of course I am somewhat seasoned. However, I have never had 3 little boys, all under the age of 4 by myself. Liam is a great baby, which makes things so much easier. I will admit that as excited as I was to start babysitting him 2 days a week, I was also nervous. Both Patrick and Owen go to school from 9am-12pm on Tuesday and Thursday, so at least I am down 2 in the morning. My biggest fear was the drop off and pickup of the boys. Loading everyone up, unloading everyone, dragging all of the lunch boxes and bags, etc. Surprisingly and more likely, by the grace of God; pick up and drop off went really smooth. I know it's only day 1and I am getting way ahead of myself with my next comment, but... having 3 isn't that bad. Yep, I said it. I know what you're thinking. "This chick is crazy!" Which the Mister would completely agree with you. We
